Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Join Bolette in Cape Town and take the chance to explore this magnificent city overlooked by iconic Table Mountain before uncovering the history of Kolmanskop from Lüderitz, a ghost town that boomed in the early 1900's diamond mining era before being left deserted. From Walvis Bay, you will have the chance to explore the vast landscapes of the Namib desert, the oldest desert in the world, and witness the sea of pink hues at Swakopmund Lagoon from visiting flamingoes. Immerse yourself in Senegalese culture and experience an effervescent folklore performance by the Lebou ethnic group, whose society focuses on ancestral spirits. Bolette will then continue on to Jamestown, the capital of the remote island of St. Helena, famously known as the final resting place of Napoleon, and home to the 699 steps of Jacob's Ladder snaking up the craggy hillside.

Your time spent on board Bolette is 21 nights, but please allow for your flight from the UK to Cape Town.

Highlights

Table Mountain, South Africa

Discover Diverse African Landscapes

The African landscape is made up of a whole host of diverse ecosystems and terrains, from Table Mountain and Signal Hill in Cape Town to the vast deserts of the Kalahari and Namib. From Lüderitz, you will have the chance to visit the Ghost Town of Kolmanskop, which was initially built when a railway worker discovered a diamond in the early 1900's. It quickly became a thriving diamond mining town, but after World War I, there was a decline in diamond sales, and the town was abandoned. Today, it stands as a silent testament to a colonial system of years gone by and may be consumed entirely by the sand dunes of the Namib Desert. Home to Swakopmund Lagoon and tidal flood plains, which entice flocks of pelicans and flamingoes to their shores, the Walvis Bay Wetlands are one of the most important coastal wetlands in southern Africa.

Senegalese culture, music

Explore cultures of Africa and beyond

On this cruise aboard Bolette, you can immerse yourself in the range of cultures that each destination offers. On St. Helena, the locals, known as Saints, are particularly friendly and will welcome you to spend time speaking with them and learning about their daily lives. Amidst your explorations, you may wish to sample a drop of St. Helena White Lion Rum or Cactus Pear Spirit Tungi, distilled on the island, or enjoy local dishes like steamed pudding or Plo, a rice-based dish similar to paella but more fragrant and spicy. Meanwhile, in Dakar, you will have the chance to experience Senegalese culture with a vibrant folklore performance by the Lebou ethnic group, whose society focuses on ancestral spirits.
