Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Witness the undeniable charm and vibrant hues of picturesque towns such as Portofino and Cinque Terre, teetering on the edges of dramatic cliffs. Experience ‘la dolce vita’ (the sweet life) firsthand, engaging in coastal hikes, leisurely boat rides, and the tradition of ‘passeggiata’ – an evening stroll embraced in Savona. You can also taste authentic cuisine, from pesto in its place of origin to tempting lemon-infused delights like limoncino in Monterosso, where the citrus fruit is celebrated with an annual festival. Enjoying aperitivo – pre-dinner drinks with small snacks – is a great way to connect with the locals, too. You can discover maritime influence at sites like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Renaissance Florence.

Discover Dramatic Cliffs & Teetering Coastal Towns

This special sailing has been designed to offer you the opportunity to explore teetering coastal towns found on the Italian Riveira. In Sanremo, wander through sun-kissed streets adorned with colourful blooms as the scent of citrus fills the air, while our call into Portofino provides the chance to explore the charming waterfront, framed by pastel-coloured house, crystal clear waters, lush green hillsides and rugged cliffs. UNESCO World Heritage Site and symbol of the Italian Riviera’s timeless allure, Cinque Terre, also awaits exploration. Consisting of five colourful villages, the area is known for its picturesque scenery, with narrow cobblestone streets, quaint piazzas and pastel-hued houses cascading down terraced hillsides towards the azure waters of the Ligurian Sea.

Experience La Dolce Vita

‘La Dolce Vita’ is an Italian term which translates to ‘the good life’. It embodies a cultural attitude and lifestyle associated with Italy that values relaxation, enjoyment and savouring the moment, such as indulging in pleasures which bring joy and satisfaction and are integral to the concept of La Dolce Vita. This could include enjoying good food with loved ones, exploring nature, pursuing artistic interests and engaging in meaningful conversations. This Borealis cruise has been meticulously crafted to allow you the opportunity to experience this concept for yourself. Wander through local markets in La Spezia, sample authentic Ligurian cuisine in Genoa, explore the picturesque coastal trails that connect the five villages of Cinque Terre, and try local Italian wines such as Vermentino or Sciacchetrà.

Italian Lemons

Monterosso Lemon Festival

We have perfectly timed our call into La Spezia to coincide with the Monterosso Lemon Festival. This annual event is held in the coastal village of Monterosso al Mare and celebrates the region’s prized lemons. Grown in terraced orchards that cling to steep hillsides overlooking the Ligurian Sea, the lemons are known for their size, fragrance and intense flavour. Lively parades and processions wind their way through the narrow streets, while market stalls offer the chance to sample a variety of locally produced lemon dishes and delicacies, such as limoncello, gelato and lemon-infused pastries.
