'Meet the crew: Noel Cuevas'

How long have you worked for Fred. Olsen, and what inspired you to become a carpenter?

I began my career with Fred. Olsen Tanker Vessels in January 1991 as a deck boy. Since then, I have stayed with Fred. Olsen, enjoying the work, my colleagues and the supportive management. My passion for woodworking led me to take on numerous carpentry projects aboard various Fred. Olsen ships, from teak wood repairs to window restorations and other specialised tasks.

What does a typical day on board look like for you?

On a typical day, I focus on the tasks assigned by the Staff Captain and assist the Bosun with daily responsibilities. Seeing how our efforts contribute to the ship’s smooth operation is always rewarding.

Can you share a particularly interesting or unique project you've worked on while on board?

One memorable project was installing new flooring on deck during Balmoral’s lengthening in 2007. Being part of such a significant transformation was a challenging yet satisfying experience.

What was your role during Balmoral's recent dry dock?

During the dry dock in Falmouth, I handled various carpentry jobs and replaced many windbreaker windows.

What's your favourite part of life at sea?

Having spent 33 years with Fred. Olsen, I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside such fantastic crew members. I always look forward to my vacations but equally to returning to work, ready to contribute to the team once again.
