A year of spectacular marine life sightings
This year has been extraordinary for marine life encounters aboard our ships, thanks to our partnership with ORCA, the marine conservation charity dedicated to protecting whales, dolphins, porpoises, and their habitats. As we’ve sailed across the globe, ORCA’s expert teams have been on hand to record remarkable wildlife sightings and share their knowledge with our guests.
Survey highlights
Some unforgettable moments include spotting a rare Gray’s beaked whale, three critically endangered North Atlantic right whales, and an impressive 31 belugas in Canada’s St Lawrence River.
The year in numbers
In total, ORCA teams recorded:
9,070 animals, including…
189 humpback whales
11 orcas
5 blue whales
304 bottlenose dolphins
163 harbour porpoises
Through this special partnership, Fred. Olsen guests have had the unique opportunity to connect with the wonders of the ocean while learning about the importance of protecting these incredible species and their fragile ecosystems.
The data collected by ORCA’s Ocean Conservationists on board directly contributes to the conservation of these animals by helping to establish important protected areas, such as those in the Bay of Biscay and the Hebrides. ORCA’s continued monitoring in these hard-to-reach areas is crucial for creating safe habitats for whales and dolphins around the world.
Here’s to another inspiring year of discovery and conservation with ORCA in 2025!
