Welcome to The Olsen Way.

In recent years, we have seen a new era emerging in cruising.

There is a trend for everything to get bigger and busier, and for a cruise to be seen as an alternative to a large luxury resort, with a limitless flurry of activity.

But this is not for us.

We believe there is another way to cruise. A way that is based on five generations of seafaring.

Where cabins are called cabins and ships look like ships.

Where the journey is as important as the destination.

In our world, smaller is better, and we believe in keeping the experience on board uncrowded, warm and civilised - treating passengers as guests, like the family run business we are.

It would be easy to follow the trends and go with the crowds. But we never will.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is a family run company, well known for our quality cruises and the ‘personal’ touch we offer our guests.

The Cruise Director is responsible for planning a varied entertainment and enrichment programme, and overseeing its implementation. They effectively manage the in house and resident entertainments personnel and act as master of ceremonies, ensuring information is delivered clearly and precisely to Guests.

Applicants should possess the following skills and qualities:

  • This is a guest facing, pivotal position. Therefore, we are seeking a confident, approachable and enthusiastic individual, who will demonstrate an excellent understanding of guest expectations and how to exceed them;
  • You should be an ambitious, hardworking person with results driven ethic and a focus on excellent customer service;
  • As Cruise Director, you will lead your team by example and be able to train, encourage and champion all members of your department as you and your team have the ability to create memories that will last a lifetime for our guests!
  • Being able to work under pressure, you will be responsible for the delivery of the Entertainment program and service excellence at all times;
  • You will be responsible for arranging the full entertainment program and bridging the gap between Senior Officers and guests so you must be highly organized, methodical and articulate in your approach to dealing with all manner of challenges that could arise, while staying true to the Fred. Olsen brand;
  • Although, you are predominantly guest focused, you will be respectful of your fellow crew members;
  • As our ideal candidate, you will have minimum 5 years managerial experience in the entertainment industry, ideally gained on a cruise ship or in the hospitality sector such as upscale hotel, resort or recreational venue;
  • You will speak and write fluent English and possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Computer literacy is essential with competent skills on Microsoft Office;
  • Your personal presentation should be professional and immaculate at all times;
  • STCW Basic Safety and STCW Crisis Management and Human Behaviour are essential.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary and a 2:1 work rotation of two months on board followed by one month of leave.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on board our cruise ships, travelling to worldwide destinations whilst enhancing our guests' holiday experience. This is your chance to give our guests the experience of a lifetime!
