Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our Journey Planners have crafted this cruise to coincide with two of Spain’s most popular annual events – the Cádiz Carnival, a joyous festival of humour and singing, and the Tenerife Carnival, second in size only to Rio de Janeiro. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to soak up some winter warmth on the many beaches of the Canaries, including the golden dunes of Gran Canaria’s Maspalomas, while Tenerife and Madeira offer volcanic landscapes and fragrant gardens respectively. Immerse yourself in the Canarian way of life by sampling the famous Mojo sauce with wrinkly potatoes (papas arrugadas) while in Cádiz, taste traditional tapas like Patatas Bravas, or enjoy a tour of Seville to see a passionate flamenco performance. Your Canary Islands cruise has also been designed to show you some of the region’s many natural and cultural sites recognised by UNESCO, including the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna on Tenerife and the Biosphere Reserve of La Palma.

Highlights

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain-Las Teresitas beach

Explore sun-kissed islands

The Canary Islands offer year-round warmth and sun and are the perfect destination to visit early in the year. The beaches of Tenerife, Las Palmas, and La Palma tempt you to wander barefoot through the golden sands as the clear blue seas lap against the shore. Wander along palm-tree lined promenades as dusk falls in Tenerife, with the shadow of mighty Mount Teide standing tall and watchful, its peak offering captivating views across the surrounding countryside; while in Madeira, explore the lush botanical gardens where the scents of exotic plants and flowers hang in the air; or hike along the unique levada trails offering magnificent vistas of picturesque villages, rugged peaks, and verdant valleys.

Samba dancers at the Rio Carnival, Brazil

Indulge in the Spanish way of life

Your Canaries cruise has been specially timed for you to experience the carnivals of Cádiz and Tenerife. The long-awaited Fiestas de Carnaval de Cádiz is a ten-day extravaganza of colour, singing, and music, with its roots tracing back to the 16th century and the city's maritime connections. The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is seen as the most important carnival in Europe, second only to Rio de Janeiro, and celebrates with street parties and processions in elaborate and colourful costumes. Throughout your cruise to the Canary Islands, you can indulge in traditional Canarian cuisine, where papas arragudas (wrinkly potatoes) with spicy Mojo sauce are a favourite; La Coruna to sample Pulpo a la Gallega (octopus stew) or empanadas (savoury pies) which are hugely popular Galician dishes; and in Madeira, the deliciously rich custard tart known as Pastéis de Nata.
