Highlights

Pico de Europa National Park, Spain

Green Spain's mountainous landscapes

This cruise aboard Borealis has been thoughtfully designed by our journey planners to allow you to discover the lush terrain and charming coasts of "España Verde," also referred to as "Green Spain." You are in an ideal location to visit the Pico de Europa National Park from Gijón, and explore its lush valleys, deep canyons, and towering peaks. Along with a diverse range of flora and fauna, it is home to species like the Griffon vulture, Iberian wolves, and Cantabrian brown bear. Meanwhile, La Coruña serves as your entry point to the Costa da Morte, a wild and untamed coastline known for its striking scenery and charming fishing communities. From Getxo, you'll have the chance to discover the Cantabrian Mountains, renowned for their rugged terrain and panoramic landscapes, which stretch across Asturias, Cantabria, Castile, León and the Basque Country.

Pintxos, tapas, Spanish canapes, finger food

Northern Spain's way of life

There will be many chances for you to experience the local way of life and learn about the rich Galician culture throughout your cruise. Asturian sidra, a traditional cider with a crisp flavour and low alcohol content, and often poured theatrically from a great height, may be tasted in Gijón, while Getxo is your starting point to the verdant vineyards of the Basque Country, one of Spain's most recognised wine areas and home to some of the best Rioja wine. During your Northern Spain cruise, you will also have the opportunity to try some of the region's speciality foods, including Pintxos - tapas like snacks, empanadas, savoury pies or pastries filled with a delicious combination of ingredients and Pulpo a la Gallega, a traditional dish featuring octopus cooked in olive oil and paprika. You will also have the chance to discover Euskara, a traditional way of speaking in the Basque Country and said to be the oldest living language in Europe.

Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Outstanding Spanish architecture

This cruise has been designed to showcase some of Galicia's most remarkable architecture at each destination you visit. In La Coruña's historic centre of Santiago de Compostela, meander along winding cobblestone alleyways, discover buildings of historical significance, and explore lively squares full of Galician cafes and restaurants. In addition to exploring vibrant marketplaces and artisan stores, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to historic cathedrals, convents, and palaces, while also being home to the Romanesque and Baroque Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the city's most famous sights. Meanwhile, in Getxo, join us on a tour to explore Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum, renowned for its innovative architecture and varied art collections; and in Gijon, admire the beautiful Revillagigedo Palace.
