Borealis

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights

Our Journey Planners have designed this Northern Norway cruise to offer you the chance to see the magical Aurora Borealis when they are likely to be at their most active. You’ll have the chance to experience this natural phenomenon illuminating the night sky while ashore and from the comfort of Borealis. When in Molde, you can experience a drive along the iconic Atlantic Ocean Road, and after experiencing the maritime tradition of crossing the Arctic Circle, an extended stay in Tromsø offers you the opportunity to spend time with a local Sámi community to gain an insight into how they’ve adapted to life in the modern Arctic. In Alesund, climb to the peak of Mount Aksla for magnificent views across the surrounding fjords to the Sunnmøre Alps.

Highlights

Northern Lights in Norway

Witness the magical Northern Lights

Your cruise aboard Borealis has been meticulously planned for you to have the very best chance of witnessing the mystical phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis. An overnight stay in Tromsø offers you the chance to journey out of the town into the countryside, where light pollution is at a minimum, accompanied by knowledgeable guides who will know the ideal places in which to see the ribbons of green and pink swirling across the sky. Narvik, a small town surrounded by snow-covered mountains and lush forests, is known as one of the greatest spots in Norway to witness the Northern Lights, so join us on the decks of Borealis for unspoiled vistas across the surrounding fjords.

L2328 husky ride

Experience Friluftsliv in snow-covered landscapes

The Norwegian concept of friluftsliv roughly translates as spending time participating in outdoor activities, at any time of the year and in any weather, for a sense of spiritual wellbeing and connecting with nature. On your Borealis cruise, you will have a number of opportunities to experience friluftsliv in the snowy landscapes of Northern Norway. In Tromsø, enjoy an exhilarating husky ride through countryside covered in snow and spend time learning how the dogs were prepared for the world-famous dog-sledding race, Finnmarksløpet, or spend time with a local Sámi community to hear stories about their traditional lifestyle of reindeer herding and fishing and protecting their language and heritage. Meanwhile, from Molde, experience the renowned Atlantic Ocean Road, its twisting road rising and falling, linking tiny islets along the coastline, earning it the name ‘The Road in the Ocean’.
