Fairytale Castles & Old Towns

Your Balmoral cruise has been designed to showcase the enchanting castles and historic quarters of the Baltic. The old towns of Vanalinn in Tallinn and Vecrīga in Riga, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, beckon with their winding cobbled streets and centuries-old architecture. In Copenhagen, you'll be ideally placed for exploring a seemingly endless list of castles, including Rosenborg, with its royal artefacts and picturesque gardens; Frederiksborg, home to the Museum of National History; and Kronborg, immortalised as the backdrop of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Additionally, tours from Warnemünde present the chance to visit Schwerin Castle, nestled on an island in Lake Schwerin.

The Way Of Life In The Baltic States

This cruise will take you on a cultural journey through the Baltic States, where each city offers a glimpse into local life and traditions. Explore Riga’s Central Market, the largest in Europe of its kind, while sampling fresh produce and engaging with vendors. In Klaipėda, you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Curonian Spit on a tour or discover the cultural significance of Lithuanian folklore and amber art. We’ve timed your visit to Tallinn so that you can join in the festivities of the Estonian Song & Dance Festival, where thousands gather to showcase national pride through music, dance and unity. Alternatively, you can simply unwind in a traditional sauna and perhaps savour the renowned Vana Tallinn liqueur.

Old stock exchange in Copenhagen

Medieval History & The Hanseatic League

The Hanseatic League was a medieval alliance of cities and merchants that facilitated trade and mutual protection in Northern Europe. As we explore the Baltic, you can uncover this fascinating history, evident in landmarks like the Old Stock Exchange in Copenhagen and the House of the Blackheads in Riga. Klaipėda's medieval past, from the Teutonic Knights to regional trade, adds another layer to the Baltic's rich history. Meanwhile, Warnemünde is ideally placed for tours to Lübeck. This Hanseatic powerhouse left its mark on Baltic commerce and culture, as seen in iconic structures such as the Holstentor Gate and the Salzspeicher salt storehouses.
