Highlights

Frederiksborg castle, Denmark

Fairytale Castles & Old Towns

Your cruise aboard Borealis has been designed to showcase fairytale-like landmarks of the Baltic, including the magnificent castles of Schwerin, Frederiksborg and Rosenborg. Dating back to the 10th century, Schwerin Castle offers a glimpse into the region's history and culture and the grandeur of Baltic aristocratic residences; while Copenhagen's Rosenborg Castle offers a fascinating insight into Danish monarchs and the rich history of Denmark. The charming old towns of Vanalinn and Vecrīga are renowned for their well-preserved medieval buildings and cobbled streets, and at this time of year are beautifully lit with Christmas lights.

Sauna in Finland

Experience the Nordic-Baltic way of life

In Helsinki, immerse yourself in the Nordic-Baltic way of life by unwinding in a sauna or connecting with nature on a hike, or trying your hand at winter sports; while in Riga sip the distinctively flavoured local liqueur known as Vana and enjoy a local folk dancing show. Enjoy the cosy Danish concept of hygge in Copenhagen by embracing shared time with friends, or the coffee break culture of Kahvitauko in Finland; and sample the traditional dish of Kalakukko, fish wrapped in bacon and baked in a loaf of bread. Copenhagen is also home to the delicious Smørrebrød, an open-faced sandwich made from dark rye bread with toppings of cold cuts, herring, seafood, pate, cheese, and various spreads.

Christmas decorations on the market

Baltic Christmas Markets

Each destination on this cruise has been specially selected for its festive markets. In Copenhagen, join us on a visit to Tivoli Gardens, which transforms into a magical winter wonderland during Christmastime, featuring festive decorations, twinkling lights and stalls offering seasonal treats; or visit the picturesque Nyhavn waterfront district where the colourful buildings lining the harbour are adorned with decorations and stalls selling local delicacies and crafts. Helsinki holds a Christmas market in the heart of the city selling traditional Finnish handicrafts and unique gifts; while Riga's festive market hosts a range of live music and dance performances as well as selling locally produced items.
