Hand-crafted highlights

This journey has been designed to showcase dramatic cliffs and scenic isles. Vestmanna Sea Cliffs in the Faroe Islands are a haven for nesting sea birds, perfect for spotting puffins, guillemots and fulmars perched on the high vertical cliff faces. The tiny Scottish islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna are also home to wildlife, including sea eagles. You’ll spend a day in Lerwick, offering exceptional opportunities to meet Shetland ponies or a local crofter and experience the Shetland way of life; while in Klaksvík, sample the local Faroese salted fish, known as Saltfiskur. Explore legendary Viking landmarks such as Tinganes and Jarlshof, or Neolithic Skara Brae.

Highlights

Guests looking out from deck to Fingal's cave

Discover dramatic cliffs & scenic isles

Bolette will take you close to the narrow straits and soaring rock faces of Vestmanna Cliffs in the Faroe Islands, rising hundreds of metres out of the ocean. The cliffs are home to a host of vibrant birdlife, perched precariously on the precipices. Scenic cruising of the Scottish Isles includes the dramatic hexagonal basalt columns of Fingal's Cave and the intriguingly shaped Bac Mòr, also known as the Dutchman's Cap. You will sail past the tiny islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna, featuring diverse landscapes and offering a haven for wildlife; and Bolette will take you past Cape Enniberg, one of the tallest sea cliffs in Europe, Sumburgh Head and Eshaness cliffs. You will also have time to spend on deck discovering the sights of Loch Broom and Loch Hourn.

Experience Island Life

As we cruise to Faroese and Scottish islands, take time to immerse yourself in traditional island life. In Torshavn, witness the proud national identity through costume and the chain dance, known as kvæði; while In Klaksvik, enjoy the local delicacy of Saltfiskur, sustainably resourced salted fish. In Stornoway, discover how Gaelic traditions thrive by hearing folkloric stories of trolls, mermaids, sea spirits and selkies; take part in a lively Ceilidh dance; or enjoy a Harris Tweed workshop. Meanwhile, in Kirkwall, enjoy locally produced Orkney cheese and fudge, or whisky at the Highland Park distillery; and spend time with Shetland ponies when you are in Lerwick.

Skara Brae, Orkney Island

Discover Legendary Island Landmarks

The landmarks of Scotland and the Faroe Islands are steeped in history, with captivating folkloric stories attached. The Isle of Staffa is said to be where the mythical giant Finn McCool built Fingal's Cave, with its unique basalt columns, in which to shelter from his arch rival Benandonner. Skara Brae, reached from Kirkwall, is a superbly well-preserved Neolithic village, offering an insight into life over 5,000 years ago; along with the Ring of Brodgar stone circle and Ness Brogdar site. The colourful, grass-roofed buildings of Tinganes in Torshavn are home to all the archipelago's government ministers, who meet here weekly, and have been at the centre of political decisions in the Faroe Islands since the Viking Age.
