Or Getxo, the gateway to the delights of the Basque Country, including Rioja and Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, followed by Gijón for Asturian cider and tours to Picos de Europa National Park? Perhaps you’ll choose Matosinhos, with access to Porto’s Douro River and Port wine, or Vigo for its spectacular festive light show and another overnight stay. Finally, decide between El Ferrol or La Coruña, both offering chances to visit the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.

Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.
