Discover our 2026 Solar Eclipse Cruises
On 12th August 2026, the rare phenomenon of a total solar eclipse will darken the skies over the Northern Hemisphere as the moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow over land and sea that descends into eerie twilight.
The path of totality will sweep across Iceland and Spain, and for those in the path of totality, this brief period will offer a spectacular view of the sun’s corona, the glowing outer atmosphere that is typically obscured by the bright light of the sun. For many, the 2026 eclipse will be particularly significant because it is one of the few total solar eclipses visible from Europe in the 21st century, the first of its kind since 1999.
Where can I see the solar eclipse?
Our journey planners have designed special solar eclipse cruises to give you the chance to experience the magnificent spectacle on each of the ships in our fleet. Bolette and Balmoral will set sail on explorations of Iceland, witnessing volcanoes, glaciers, and geysers. You will have opportunities to relax in the warm waters of geothermal pools, admire tumbling waterfalls, and go in search of whales and seabirds.
On 12th August, Bolette and Balmoral will be perfectly positioned off the coast of Western Iceland, offering you the very best vantage point from which to see the solar eclipse for the longest period of time. With specially provided glasses, you will be able to see the total eclipse as the moon passes over the sun.
Borealis is destined for Spain and Portugal, where you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the Iberian way of life by strolling around old towns and historic districts, sampling Pasteis de Nata in Lisbon, tapas in Andalusia, or learning how to dance the Flamenco.
As you depart from La Coruna on the special day, you will be ideally located to witness the eclipse, as your ship's captain will position your ship on the path of totality, so you can witness the phenomenon from the decks of Borealis.
