Can you tell us about your journey with Fred. Olsen and how it all began?

My journey with Fred. Olsen began in 2007 in New York, where I helped transform the Norwegian Crown into Fred. Olsen brand style and, as we know her today, Balmoral. Starting as a Galley Utility, I drew on my experience as a five-star hotel waiter to cross-train in 2009 and transition into the restaurant department. Through hard work and dedication, I've risen through the ranks and now proudly serve as an Assistant Maître d'. It's been a rewarding path of growth, filled with valuable experiences.

What inspired your cruise career, and how has it changed your life?

Growing up, I often heard stories from friends and neighbours about the cruise industry—how working on a ship had transformed their lives. My mother always dreamed that one of her sons would travel the world, and she often said that one day, one of us would work on a cruise ship. Her greatest wish was to move out of our old house, which flooded every monsoon season. Thankfully, that dream has now come true.

As the youngest of three brothers, I was the first to travel abroad. Joining Fred. Olsen has not only helped me achieve my dreams but has also changed my family's life. We now have a new home, and our quality of life has improved significantly. This journey has been truly life-changing.

What have been your most memorable and rewarding moments on board?

Through my dedication and hard work, I was honoured to be nominated as Employee of the Month. In 2022, I was given the incredible opportunity to step up as Captain Waiter, which was another milestone in my journey. This promotion was something I had worked towards for years and made me incredibly proud.

Looking back, the combination of hard work, recognition and stepping into a leadership role has made my career truly special. Each moment has shaped me into who I am today, and I'm grateful for the opportunities to grow personally and professionally.

Witnessing Balmoral being cut into two parts was an unforgettable moment. I was fortunate to experience this extraordinary event firsthand when Balmoral had an overnight stay in Mumbai during her world cruise. That moment stands out as a unique experience that felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I've also enjoyed visiting places I might never have been to otherwise. Additionally, it's always fulfilling to know that many guests choose to book a cruise not just for the journey but also to see crew like me, making the experience even more special.
